On August 6, Vice President J.D. Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel held a meeting to discuss their strategy regarding the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files in the White House.
The intention of the meeting was to craft a unified, coherent narrative regarding how the Trump administration is handling the Epstein files. Vance also likely attempted to use the meeting to reconcile Bondi and Patel, who have suffered from strained relations. The public release of Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s conversation with Ghislaine Maxwell was deliberated.
Vance and his staff, including his communications director, William Martin, denied the existence of this conversation, despite the source that reported it offering specific topics that the group discussed.
Background
Before, it was reported that the meeting would take place in Vance’s residence. White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and Blanche were originally supposed to take part in the meeting.
There is no known reason as to why Wiles and Blanche were ultimately not present when the meeting happened. The public release of Blanche’s questioning of Maxwell, which, as is now known, was made without his input, may have been done to undermine him, as the public would view him as playing nice with a pedophile and human trafficker. Trump publicly defended the interview, however.
Wiles may have been excluded as a means to resist her significant influence in Trump’s White House.
