Donald Trump named Stephen Feinberg, CEO of Cerberus Capital Management, for deputy defense secretary. Feinberg is one of a slew of appointments where the candidate is a megadonor with no subject-area experience, and would cause a number of conflicts if he’s confirmed. From Politico:
Normally, federal officials recuse themselves from taking part in any decisions relating to companies they once worked for or have investments in, meaning Feinberg could face a complicated task doing the deputy job, which is focused on budgeting and technology development.
Through investment schemes, Feinberg is also connected to the defense firm that trained the assassins who murdered Saudi dissident and Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.
