Following his many threats against U.S. cities with Democrat mayors, Donald Trump has stated on Fox News that he intends to deploy the National Guard in Memphis, replacing his previous plan to deploy troops in Chicago instead. “We’re going to Memphis. Memphis is deeply troubled.”
During the news broadcast, Trump claimed both Memphis Mayor Paul Young and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee are “happy” with the decision, however Young later clarified that he is very much against the plan, saying “I want to be clear, I didn’t ask for the National Guard and I don’t think it’s the way to drive down crime, however that decision has been made.” Young had been in talks with Trump about a deployment earlier in the week, however was not notified about any decision until the public announcement.
