On June 12, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a raid against Ohio Organizing Collaborative (OOC) in search of evidence for almost non-existent voter fraud.
A Cleveland office belonging to the OOC was searched, as well as the homes of people associated with the progressive group, which engages in voter registration efforts. Documents and computer files were seized.
While a judge cleared the execution of the search warrant, there is no known information about why the raid was conducted. However, Ohio is the site of two competitive midterm elections, with tight gubernatorial and Senate contests. The Trump administration has also targeted another competitive state, Georgia, over false claims of widespread voter fraud.
In 2017, a canvasser that OOC paid committed voter fraud. However, they had no formal connection to the organization, and there has been no documented impropriety since. Representative Shontel Brown and former director and current board member of OOC, Prentiss Haney, accused the Trump administration of committing voter intimidation.
