During a live-hit with Tucker Carlson, J.D. Vance claimed American politics are run and controlled by “childless cat ladies.”
“We’re effectively run in this country—via the Democrats and corporate oligarchs—by childless cat ladies, who are miserable about their own lives and the choices they’ve made. and they want to make the rest of the country miserable too.”
He continued: “It’s just a basic fact. You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC… the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. How does it make sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it? I just wanted to ask that question and propose that maybe, if we want a healthy, ruling class in this country we should invest more and support more people who actually have kids.”

Vance didn’t explain why America needs any type of “ruling class” in the first place. And a little over two weeks after Vance made those comments, Pete Buttigieg & husband Chasten Glezman announced they had become first-time parents via adoption.
On July 26, 2024 — amid public scrutiny after becoming Donald Trump’s running mate — Vance doubled-down on his remarks, telling Megyn Kelly that his comments were “not about criticizing people who for various reasons don’t have kids. This is about criticizing the Democratic Party for becoming anti-family and anti-child.”
