On an unknown date, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll ordered the social media accounts affiliated with the Army unit, Soldier for Life, to be shut down after the unit shared a post honoring Senator Tammy Duckworth, a war hero who lost both of her legs in the Iraq War. The post in question was apolitical, but removed on April 13 along with several accounts.
An Army spokesperson lied about the circumstances of the social media removals, which are obviously political. Rather, they stated, the social media accounts were “not directly managed by qualified Army personnel.” If the spokesperson is to be believed, the timing behind the social media deletions was coincidental to a fascinating extent.
A Department of Defense official admitted that Driscoll had the accounts shut down because he gave in to the right-wing outrage that surrounded the post. Driscoll is in a heated rivalry with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who has been “paranoid” of getting outshone by rivals such as Driscoll.
