Donald Trump announced that former congressman Billy Long was his choice to lead Internal Revenue Service—an appointment that, at least in part, is a reward for Long (along with others) asking SCOTUS to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.
Long dropped out of University of Missouri and doesn’t have a college degree, nor does he have any experience in accounting or in leading large organizations (IRS has more than 94,000 employees). After dropping out of school, he decided to get a Certified Auctioneer degree, requiring 9 days of training, in Kansas City.
Today, he markets himself on X (formerly Twitter) as “tax advisor,” using a business acronym that experts say does not exist in financial circles.

Long pushed to abolish the IRS while in congress in 2013, stating “Our current Tax Code puts too much power and potential for abuse into the hands of unaccountable, unelected bureaucrats.”
