On March 11, Trump pardoned former Tennessee state senator Brian Kelsey. Kelsey only served two weeks of a 21-month prison sentence.
This pardon occurred despite Kelsey himself pleading guilty to two counts of violating federal campaign finance laws in 2022.
The ex-senator funneled more than $90,000 from his state account to his congressional campaign through two political action committees, illicitly using “soft money” not governed by federal laws.

Kelsey, without evidence, claimed that former president Joe Biden “weaponized” the Department of Justice against him and others on the right-wing. This is a common claim among those that Trump has previously pardoned. Kelsey attempted to withdraw his guilty plea to no avail.
