Trump admin cuts mental health jobs during shutdown

In the second week of the ongoing government shutdown, the Trump administration has laid off roughly 125 employees from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the main mental health agency in the US. “I think the general feeling today is shock — and not understanding why?” the source revealing this info told NPR. SAMHSA oversees the 988 suicide hotline, as well as issuing grants to mental health and addiction services. It employed around 900 employees prior to these layoffs.
