On May 28, Trump commuted the sentence of Larry Hoover, an infamous Chicago gang leader and murderer.
“Larry Hoover’s federal life sentences have been commuted by President Donald Trump,” Bonjean Law Group said in a statement to ABC News. “Mr. Hoover, who is now 75 years old, spent nearly 30 years in solitary confinement at ADX Florence — the most restrictive, draconian supermax prison in the United States.”

However, he still faces a 200-year state sentence for the murder of a 19-year-old drug dealer.
Trump faced pressure from political ally and rapper Kanye West, whom sat with Trump and white supremacist Nicholas Fuentes for dinner. West, along with another rapper, Drake, advocated for Hoover’s release during an Amazon-sponsored event. Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, has also become a Trump ally, directly intervening in The Washington Post’s affairs to ensure that the paper would not endorse former Vice President Kamala Harris.
By transferring Hoover from a high-security prison in Colorado to a lower-level one in Illinois, Trump risks contributing to gang activity in Chicago. There have been claims of Hoover controlling his gang via intermediaries. If these claims are true, Hoover will have considerably better access to gang leaders there.
