Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) introduces a bill that would disqualify any ballots that aren’t counted within 24 hours after polling locations close on election day.
The bill is designed to appear as though it helps “prevent fraud,” but the last line in the bill would block millions of votes in the upcoming election.
Requires all eligible ballots to be counted and reported within 24 hours after polls close on Election Day to promote certainty in the outcome of a federal election
Verifiable, Orderly, & Timely Election Results (VOTER) Act
Government officials and political analysts have warned for months that we won’t know the final result of the election until days later; many states don’t start counting mail-in ballots until election day.
In states such as Pennsylvania and Arizona, it may take many days to tabulate ballots and the vote margin could shift significantly. But states such as Florida and Minnesota are able to process absentee ballots in advance, which will speed up the tabulation and blend the election day votes with votes that are cast in advance by mail… It is essential for the public to realize that election night totals are preliminary and that patience is required to produce a complete, accurate count of the vote.
