On September 30, approximately 800 Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) employees were formally terminated from the agency as a result of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) buyout deal.
Forty percent of those relieved employees were special agents, presenting a dent in the FBI’s capacity. FBI Director Kash Patel tacitly confessed the incompetence and shortsightedness of these firings to the Senate, where he mentioned reports that 1811s (criminal investigators with three or more years of experience) would be able to partake in the Quantico training program.
Former acting FBI director Brian Driscoll, amid his lawsuit against Patel, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Deputy Director of the FBI, Dan Bongino, claimed that Patel also admitted that he felt required to accept the numerous terminations at the FBI in order to save his own job.
