FCC abuses power to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live

The Trump Timeline:

Under threats from the Federal Communications Commission, ABC indefinitely suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live after the host’s remarks on Charlie Kirk.

FCC Chair (and Project 2025 co-author) Brendan Carr threatened to revoke ABC and Disney’s broadcast licenses if they failed to take action against Kimmel. Before ABC made a decision, Nexstar Media Group, which is seeking FCC approval for a $6.2 billion merger, announced that they would no longer air Kimmel on the ABC affiliate stations they own.

It is not the FCC’s job to fact check news organizations or police free speech that doesn’t violate the law. Additionally, Kimmel’s comments were not mocking or justifying Kirk’s death. They were instead criticizing false narratives about the shooter and mocking Trump.

Following the announcement, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to celebrate the decision.

“Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible.” Trump also went on to encourage NBC to cancel Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers’ shows. “Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!!”
