Caroline Miller, editor-in-chief of New York Magazine, made a deal with Bruce Wasserstein to purchase the publication, avoiding selling it to a group of investors including Jeffrey Epstein and writer Michael Wolff.
The group, referred to as “cold-eyed, wealthy executives” by the New York Times, was willing to pay over $50 million to buy New York Mag. The effort was headed by Mortimer B. Zuckerman, owner of The Daily News and U.S. News & World Report, and included Epstein, Wolff, Nelson Peltz, Donnie Deutsch, and Harvey Weinstein.
Zuckerman’s group was unaware that they were outbid until after the deal was final.
In 2004, Mortimer and Epstein purchase Radar magazine together, but the company folds by the end of 2005.
