Donald Trump posted a lie-filled screed to his social media site that promised retribution for Democratic officials who crossed him (and their donors).

Even by Trump’s standards, this post was so off the rails that it caused flashes of journalism from America’s notoriously timid media.
Politico called it one of the “most explicit threats yet to upend the rule of law.” Washington Post said it was the “most overt signal yet” Trump will reject the results of November election (it’s much more than that, but okay). Even an anonymous, swing-state Republican told WaPo that “someone should replace Trump” on the ticket following his Truth Social declaration.
As Steve Benen writes for MaddowBlog:
Common sense might suggest that the GOP candidate would be more subtle about his intentions. But Trump is instead throwing caution to the wind, endorsing a “strongman” leadership style, bragging about his support from dictators, raising the prospect of a temporary American “dictatorship,” talking about “terminating” parts of the Constitution that stand in the way of his ambitions, arguing that his rivals shouldn’t be “allowed” to run against him, targeting immigrants with Hitler-style rhetoric, all while promising pardons to politically aligned criminals and promising a crack down on the free press.
