On April 4, Trump fired the director of the National Security Agency (NSA) and leader of the Pentagon’s Cyber Command, Air Force General Tim Haugh.
No justification was offered for the firing. General Haugh’s civilian deputy at the NSA, Wendy Noble, was also removed from her position. According to the NSA, Noble was apparently reassigned to the office of the defense undersecretary for intelligence. However, Noble is nowhere to be seen on the website.

Far-right personality and Trump ally Laura Loomer took credit for Haugh’s firing, warning Trump about his ties to General Mark Milley, who grew to become a Trump critic after Trump attempted to politicize Milley’s office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In the future, Loomer would again take credit for meddling in the NSA. Loomer does not have a national security background, yet this fact has not dissuaded Trump from following her counsel.
General Haugh has 33 years of experience in intelligence and cyber operations, which are now lost to the NSA and Pentagon for no coherent reason.
