Energy Department takes down 1,600 webpages that helped Americans save money, stay cool

On an unknown date, but by July 3, the Department of Energy (DOE) removed over 1,600 pages from its website. The websites in question contained information regarding saving money on energy, and staying cool during the summer.

Bizarrely, the wave of websites deleted in early July coincides with guidance from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who advised businesses to set their air conditioning to 78 degrees Fahrenheit. It just so happened that the DOE website that complimented this guidance, specifically recommending people to keep their cooling at 75 to 78 degrees, was taken down after Mamdani’s request. On July 2, the DOE proposed a new rule to limit household appliance energy efficiency standards.

It is typical of the Trump administration to remove informative webpages that relate to new policies, so as to weaken criticism during the mandatory public comment period. This is despite Trump claiming to run a “transparent” administration.
