On September 2, the White House warned Republicans in Congress that attempting to fully release the Jeffrey Epstein files, which reveal pedophilic behavior among Epstein and his clients, would be interpreted as “a very hostile act” by Trump.
This comes as pressure is accumulating in the House of Representatives to pass a discharge petition that would call for the releasing of all available Epstein files held by the government. This effort is spearheaded by Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie, whose relationship with Trump has collapsed. Massie was joined by fellow Republicans Nancy Mace, Lauren Boebert, and Marjorie Taylor Greene. The Democrats and this handful of Republican rebels need two more GOP members to reach the 218 votes needed to pass the discharge petition.
On the same day, Trump refused to address or acknowledge the issue on Truth Social in an attempt to distract the media and national discourse.
Also on the same day, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee attempted to appease those who wanted answers on Epstein by releasing 33,000 documents on the matter; this amounted to another distraction, as 97 percent of the documents were already in the public record. Representative Robert Garcia, the ranking member of the Oversight Committee, uncovered that figure and warned Americans:
“To the American people – don’t let this fool you,“ Garcia said in a statement.
“There is no mention of any client list or anything that improves transparency or justice for victims. House Republicans are trying to make a spectacle of releasing already-public documents.”

Khanna noted that trust in government itself was at stake, with Trump pledging to release the files in his 2024 Presidential campaign, and Attorney General Pam Bondi acknowledging the existence of an Epstein client list that has yet to be released. Victims of Epstein have taken it upon themselves to compile a clientele list, with Massie pledging to read it on the House floor.
