On July 24, Trump signed an executive order that called for temporary signage to be set outside the Smithsonian National Museum of American History that warns viewers about alleged “inaccurate information” in the museum.
The executive order is based on a 162-page report that was released on July 4. Without evidence, it accused museum director Anthea Hartig’s of facilitating “thinly veiled anti-Americanism.” The temporary signage also reference this report, and declared that exhibits will be altered according to the findings of the report.
Hartig responded to the accusations by stating:
“I believe what you shall find is not an institution that has forgotten its country,” she said, “but one that loves it enough to tell the full sweep of our history.”
