Sometime this summer, exact date unknown, a woman spent multiple days answering questions from members of Congress and confirming that Rep. Matt Gaetz had sex with her when she was just 17 years old and still in high school.
The woman who was at the center of a years long Justice Department investigation into sex trafficking allegations surrounding Rep. Matt Gaetz testified to the House Ethics Committee that the now-former Florida congressman had sex with her when she was 17 years old, sources familiar with the investigation told ABC News.

Gaetz has denied the allegations for years, claiming to have never slept with anyone younger than 18. The woman, now in her 20s, was paid by Gaetz’s friend Joel Greenberg to sleep with other men while she was underage. Greenberg is currently serving an 11-year prison sentence for sex trafficking and other crimes.
At least six other women procured by Greenberg allege that they attended parties with Greenberg and Gaetz. His own ex-girlfriend provided a sworn written statement alleging that she was at a drug-fueled party in July 2017 attended by both Matt Gaetz and the then-minor.
In November, Donald Trump announces that Matt Gaetz will be nominated to serve as the U.S. Attorney General. Gaetz resigns from Congress almost immediately, just days before a final meeting in the investigation by the House Ethics Committee.
The news of the woman’s summer testimony breaks on November 14, 2024. The date for this post was chosen based on August 6 falling directly in the middle of the summer season (June 20 – Sept. 21).
