On September 24, the United States Department of Agriculture appointed Ben Carson to advise on nutrition, health, and housing.
Carson will accompany the agriculture secretary, Brooke L. Rollins, and her work on the so-called Make America Healthy Again commission. Carson will prioritize chronic diseases and privations in rural housing.
Carson is receiving a Presidential Medal of Freedom from Trump on Saturday, more for his loyalty to Trump than the country.
This is a classic case of careerism within Trump’s orbit, with Carson being hired to yet another role for which is he is not qualified. Before being in Trump’s orbit, Carson was a career neurosurgeon. In the first Trump term, he was appointed as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, a role he was also unqualified for, having no experience in that field.
