Donald Trump threatens to defund California public schools if his administration finds out that they’re teaching a “1619 Project” curriculum.

The 1619 Project is a New York Times Magazine effort to normalize the real history of slavery, not the fairytale version in which slaves enjoyed life even though it was unfair. 1619 also sheds light on Black people’s contributions to American history and the country’s founding.

“Department of Education is looking at this. If so, they will not be funded!” the president wrote on Twitter, linking to a post that said California had implemented the program.

New York Post

Less than two weeks later, Trump signs an executive order pressuring schools to teach a “pro-American” version of history.
