Trump threatens to cancel debate unless host agrees to ignore COVID-19 deaths

The Trump Timeline:

Sources linked at end of page.

Donald Trump’s campaign team asks debate host Chris Wallace not to mention the number of COVID-19 deaths during the debate. The request is “a condition” for Trump agreeing to the debate, which he’s already agreed to attend.

The coronavirus death count in the U.S. surpassed 200,000 a week before.

The first 2020 presidential debate goes live about eight hours later.

Note: We do not know the exact day this request was made by the Trump campaign, so the file is dated based on when the news came out.

This story is still breaking at the time we’re writing this, and the file will be updated accordingly.
