The Trump administration announces they will not enact sanctions that Congress passed in 2017. The sanctions are aimed at businesses and oligarchs who do business with Russian defense and intelligence firms.
Originally, Trump and some of his cronies in Congress tried blocking the legislation from being passed. Now that it has, they refuse to act on the new law or approve a list of specific people and businesses to sanction.
Though also mentioning Iran and North Korea, the law was billed as a U.S. response to Moscow’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.
