The White House pressures colleges to align with Trump’s political agenda, encouraging multiple schools nationwide to sign a “compact” in exchange for priority access to federal grants.
Some of the demands found on the compact include providing data on international students to the government and requiring schools to accept the government’s definition of gender.
The 10 page compact also forces signatories to ensure “institutional neutrality” by forcing their employees to abstain from “speech relating to societal and political events,” effectively silencing thousands of university workers from voicing their speech.
