On just his second day in office, Donald Trump pardoned Ross Ulbricht, creator of the Silk Road, a dark web marketplace used for the distribution of drugs and other illegal services.
Trump stated in a post on Truth Social that the pardon is “unconditional” and claimed that Ulbricht was wrongfully convicted by his (Trump’s) political enemies.
The scum that worked to convict him [Ulbricht] were some of the same lunatics who were involved in the modern day weaponization of government against me.
The Silk Road was created by Ross Ulbricht on January 2011 and operated until October 2013, when Ulbricht was arrested and the site seized by the FBI. During his time operating the site, Ulbricht amassed millions. Ulbricht was sentenced to life in prison in 2015 after a jury found him guilty of distributing drugs, conspiring to money laundering, and several other offenses.
In a video posted on X, Ulbricht explained that his pardon is a “victory” for anyone who loves freedom.
