In another move that can be seen as an attack on the position he will hold, former Georgia senator David Perdue was tapped by Donald Trump to be ambassador to China. From BBC:
Perdue, who was labelled ‘anti-China’ by a Chinese think tank while in Congress, has advocated for a stronger US navy, partly over China’s work to increase its military strength. He is the latest ‘China hawk’ tapped for foreign policy in Trump’s next term, as the world wonders if the incoming president will start a trade war with the country.
In an unsuccessful run for Georgia governor following his senate loss to Jon Ossoff in 2022, David Perdue echoed Trump’s false claims about fraud in the 2020 election and even pressured Georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger to resign for refusing to repeat those same lies

This one is personal, since I’m a 20+-year Georgia resident and, ya know, a fan of democratic norms. Perdue, as Ossoff correctly labeled him, is a “crook” of the highest order—which, of course, makes him incredibly attractive to a lifelong criminal about to take American democracy off a cliff. (And yes, Perdue was so wigged out by Ossoff’s dragging him for filth that he ghosted the next debate… courageous.)
So yes, Perdue (estimated net worth of more than $25M) got busted up in an insider-trading scandal—as did Trump’s other “Crooked Georgia GOP” nominee for Small Business Association, Kelly Loeffler (estimated net worth of $800M). They have plenty of cash and did not need to engage in illicit activity, but that’s just a quibble really.
Hey man, goons who demonstrate strong-criming bona fides (in Georgia or elsewhere) will go places inside Donald’s nascent-fascist regime.
