On February 18, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump attended the inauguration of the Trump International Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) capital of Dubai.
The golf club was developed in cooperation with luxury real estate group DAMAC, which is led by Hussain Sajwani, “a long-standing business partner of the new US president.”
However, it was not Sajwani or the Trump sons who did the construction of the resort. A reporter for Vice, Ben Anderson, uncovered the horrific conditions that immigrant laborers underwent while building the luxury property.
“Having guys live 21 to a room with rats running around above them; having to work extremely hard in extreme heat for two years just to break even, just to pay off the debts they accrued getting there.”
Raw Story
The workers lived two hours away from Dubai in “an area that lacked even an access road.” One worker earned as little as $231 a month, and was imprisoned into working for DAMAC because they had confiscated his passport. The restrooms utilized by the workers appeared to be more suitable for animal than human utilization.
The UAE has become infamous for its exploitation of foreign laborers, especially desperate job-seekers from Southeast and South Asia. Of course, this has not deterred Trump and his sons from seeking business opportunities in the Middle Eastern dictatorship.
