Donald Trump and a disgraced coterie of far-right figures held what can only be described as an intentional revival of Nazism at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Hosted inside an arena adorned with blood-red carpeting and ample imagery evocative of the Third Reich, the event was bizarre spectacle even by Trump’s grotesque standards.
As for false claims, CNN had to cut away from the rally because of the avalanche of lies spewed by speakers—which, in addition to Trump and wife Melania, included Dr. Phil, “militant Scientologist” Grant Cardone, and far-right “comedian” Kill Tony.
That latter speaker, Tony Hinchcliffe, referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”
As Edward Helmore wrote for The Guardian, similarities to Hitler’s Nazi rally at the same venue write themselves. “Donald Trump’s decision to hold a rally in the heart of Manhattan on 27 October, nine days before election day, has been slammed by New York Democrats, with one comparing the booking to an infamous Nazi rally held at the same venue in the lead-up to the second world war”
