In a tacit acknowledgement of unconstitutional actions the Trump administration has already taken, spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed Donald Trump “simply floated the idea” of deporting Americans and self-congratulated the effort as “transparency.”
Speaking to the White House press pool (as reported by Molly Finnegan for PBS) Leavitt made the bizarre, rambling comments as a way to explain the official “policy”:
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday that the Trump administration is not sure it is legal to deport U.S. citizens to El Salvador, but that President Donald Trump has ‘simply floated’ the idea for the sake of transparency. Trump said Sunday that he loves the idea of deporting incarcerated Americans to El Salvador, but that he doesn’t ‘know what the law says on that.’ A reporter had asked Trump about El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele’s offer to house American prisoners. Leavitt said the president had discussed the idea both privately and publicly for ‘heinous, violent criminals who have broken our nation’s laws repeatedly.’
The Trump administration reached a deal with El Salvador to deport Americans to their terrorist concentration center two months ago.
It should be noted, however, that they are mulling the legality of deporting people who have a constitutional right to be in America (citizens, permanent residents, Green Card holders) after the administration has already taken said action.
In early March, ICE abducted Mahmoud Khalil for protesting genocide. Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked student visas without notice, stripped them of legal status and declared plans to deport them. And balaclava-wearing DHS agents kidnapped students off the street.
AUTHOR FOOTNOTE
All of this creepy “musing” from the podium by Donald’s paid liar is in addition to border czar Tom Homan‘s recent comments, per Axios, that ICE is “sole decider” of who is in a gang and who is not. In other words, if ICE gives a thumbs up, a person or persons get deported using the Alien Enemies Act as cover (first time that Act has been invoked in American history without a declaration of war by Congress), and without a shred of oversight.
TrumpFile readers will recall our piece from mid March reporting that hundreds of people, many in America legally, were hastily deported to a concentration camp in El Salvador. Donald was ordered by a federal judge to stop and he ignored it.
Bloomberg is also out with reporting that states “many” of those deported to El Salvador do not have criminal records, despite the bluster about them being gang members.
The stated reasoning for abducting and/or deporting people is absolute bollocks, to be sure, but those who already got caught in this “unconstitutional dragnet” are also being tortured and/or used by Donald’s regime to create terrorist propaganda that they can then share to social media.
I’m not a lawyer, so take this with a bag of salt: their conduct is, for all intents and purposes, criminal in nature. And until Congress changes current laws governing this nation that would be more favorable to lawbreaking (the night is young) all of Donald’s goons will be on-the-hook later on when adults are back running the federal government.
