During a briefing from the Oval Office, Donald Trump was asked why flags around the country were not lowered to half mast in honor of Democratic Minnesota House of Representatives speaker Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated earlier in the year, to which Trump said that he was “not familiar” with her death, but likely would have lowered the flags if asked by Minnesota governor Tim Walz. The question came in light of Trump ordering the flags to be lowered in response to Charlie Kirk‘s assassination days before.
Trump also denied claims that he had only blamed “one side,” however went on to accuse the “radical left” of being responsible for “tremendous violence.” “The radical left really has caused a lot of problems for this country,” he said. “I really think they hate our country.”
