Donald Trump and Mike Pence meet in the Oval Office, the first time they’ve spoken since Trump made him a target in the Capitol attack.
Not much is known about the conversation. Officials only say that they will continue to work “on behalf of the country” until January 20 and that the people at the Capitol “do not represent the America first movement.”
(The “America First” movement is part of the rhetoric Trump used in his speech to incite his followers to march to the Capitol, so that’s… strange wording.)
After terrorists infiltrated the inside of the Capitol building, Donald Trump tweeted that Mike Pence had failed to do what Trump wanted. Within seconds, people inside the Capitol began looking for him.
“Hang Mike Pence!” the insurrectionists chanted as they pressed inside, beating police with pipes. They demanded House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s whereabouts, too. They hunted any and all lawmakers: “Where are they?” Outside, makeshift gallows stood, complete with sturdy wooden steps and the noose. Guns and pipe bombs had been stashed in the vicinity.
