The State Department has announced that people from Gaza will temporarily be unable to obtain visitor visas while it investigates how “a small number of temporary medical-humanitarian visas” have been issued lately. The announcement comes the day after conservative activist Laura Loomer posted videos of Gazan children coming to the US to receive medical treatment, where she questions how the children obtained visas.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio went on ‘Face the Nation’ the same day and said that the change was following ”outreach from multiple congressional offices asking questions about it.” He went on to say that there were “just a small number” of the visas issued to children that needed medical help, but that the children were also accompanied by adults. Rubio also claimed that the congressional offices reached out with evidence that “some of the organizations bragging about and involved in acquiring these visas have strong links to terrorist groups like Hamas,” however did not provide any evidence himself or list any of the organizations.
