The Trump Administration quietly removes the lead scientist in charge of assessing climate change and global warming. The news breaks early the following week.

Dr. Michael Kuperberg was the executive director of the U.S. Global Change Research Program, which is responsible for producing the National Climate Assessment.

POLITICO received an automatic reply from Kuperberg’s USGCRP email address that indicated his detail there ended Nov. 6 and that he was heading back to the Energy Department… Climate scientist Don Wuebbles confirmed to POLITICO that Kuperberg was informed by email on Friday that he was getting sent back to his post at DOE.

The move comes less than two months after the administration hired a climate change denier to a top position at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). That hire, David Legates, is an academic who wrote that carbon dioxide is not a pollutant.
