On the third day of the Republican National Convention, Roger Stone introduces 26-year-old Michael Caputo to Donald Trump.

This specific date is given by Michael Caputo in a 2017 interview with the U.S. House of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Roger Stone mentored Caputo, teaching him the ropes to get to where he is today: drafting Central America propaganda for the Reagan administration. In a few years, he’ll work for George H.W. Bush’s re-election campaign.

Despite these positions, Caputo won’t be notable enough for a mention in The New York Times until 1995, in an article about Russia’s elections.

“One thing we noted very clearly,” said Michael Caputo, the Russia-based program manger for the group that conducted the poll. “There is also some strong optimism here. There are large numbers of people in Russia who honestly feel that their vote can change things. You don’t often find that in the United States.”
