A volunteer for the Trump Campaign emails officials in three Pennsylvania counties for details on election security measures. The requested information could make it possible for the campaign to interfere with ballots.
Specifically, the volunteer wants to know ballot storage locations and transportation details.
Pennsylvania’s secretary of state alerts the FBI and tells counties not to provide any election information to third parties. The campaign confirms the emails were sent with their approval.
Election officials in Cumberland, Mercer and Montour counties — all counties that are delaying mail-in ballot canvassing until Wednesday morning — received the email from a Gmail address connected to a Trump campaign volunteer.
Cumberland County Commissioner Gary Eichelberger said that in his 16 years in office, he has “never seen anything like” the Trump campaign’s request.
