White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows tests positive for COVID-19, likely on or before election day. Advisers say he started telling staff following Tuesday’s initial election results.

The news breaks late Friday evening.

It wasn’t immediately clear when Meadows learned that he had contracted the virus or whether he had developed symptoms of Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus. He informed a close circle of advisers after Tuesday’s election, one of the people said.

Nick Trainer, a Trump Campaign aide, also tests positive.

The White House later confirms at least four other White House officials and one campaign staffer are positive for the virus.

Rep. Matt Gaetz also reportedly told people close to him that he tested positive. He negates this reporting, saying he tested positive for antibodies but does not have the virus.

More than three dozen people connected to Donald Trump and/or the White House tested positive in the past six weeks.
