Some Americans have referred to our country as a police state for years, but Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill lays the groundwork for an actual police state.
The bill, which is being rushed through the House right now, increases the budget for immigration enforcement to $175 BILLION. That’s more money than most countries spend on their military each year.
Of that funding, $45 billion is earmarked for building new detention centers. ICE’s detention budget will be 62% higher than the cost of our entire federal prison system.
According to the American Immigration Council, this budget will allow ICE to detain over 116,000 people every single day.
Folks, there is no need for this. There is no invasion, no attack on our country, no problem that giving ICE this much power will solve.
We aren’t building detention centers to detain and deport non-citizens. We’re building contentration camps that can be used against anyone.
This is the beginning of Nazi Germany all over again.
You start off by saying you’re going after criminals, because the public will mostly go along with it.
Then you build the infrastructure to disappear people. It won’t take long. Florida’s new Alligator Alcatraz was built in just eight days. It might be the first concentration camp in history to have its own merch.
Once the infrastructure is complete, you reveal the larger project: taking away citizenship protections and leaving Americans stateless.
Once it’s a crime to be here without citizenship, anyone stripped of their citizenship and left stateless is automatically a criminal.
The Trump administration has already detained and even deported American citizens for having immigrant family members.
They’ve revoked visas and detained students for calling what’s happening in Gaza a genocide. Regardless of your opinions on Israel, no one can say that isn’t an assault on our freedom of speech.
Republicans are working overtime to get this bill to Donald Trump’s desk, despite the creation of a police state, despite the cuts to food assistance, housing assistance, student loan assistance, Medicaid, Medicare, and other social safety nets.
Why wouldn’t they work just as hard when it’s time to play games with our citizenship and our constitutional rights?
The police state is coming, and we don’t know what to do about it — so we’ll keep on doing what we do best.
Someday, this administration WILL be held accountable. The Trumps and Thiels and Musks of the world will be exposed for who they are and the damage they’ve done to a nation that used to be a beacon of hope and a fortress for freedom.
When that day comes, Trump File will be here to make sure no crime or assault on our democracy is forgotten.
