Countless veterans could die under new policy

The Trump administration has quietly implemented new rules at Dept. of Veterans Affairs hospitals — which serve around 9 MILLION VETERANS across the country — seeking to end healthcare access for Democrats and unmarried vets.

According to sources speaking with The Guardian, these rules are already in effect at some VA medical centers, and they expand to psychologists, dentists, and practically all health-related fields.

Medical staff are still required to treat veterans regardless of race, color, religion and sex, but individual workers are now free to decline care for patients based on personal characteristics not explicitly prohibited by federal law.

Policies requiring healthcare professionals to care for veterans regardless of their politics and marital status have been thrown out, and VA hospitals can deny employment to practitioners based on their marital status, politics, or union membership.

Folks, there’s a clear path for Republicans from here: politicizing VA hospital leadership like they’ve done at school boards.

If a VA hospital is put in the hands of a Trump loyalist, they will be able to fire any healthcare professional who does not deny service to non-MAGA patients, citing this as evidence that the employee is not sufficiently loyal to Trump.

Here’s a short list of the professionals at risk:

— Doctors
— Nurse practitioners
— Psychiatrists
— Psychologists
— Chiropractors
— Optometrists
— Podiatrists
— Clinical social workers
— Speech therapists
— and more

The new rules cite an executive order from January titled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.”

It was widely assessed as targeting transgender people — not veterans, Democrats, or unmarried Americans. But as we’ve been warning, trans rights are only the beginning.

The origins of this change at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs doesn’t matter as much as the impact.

To be clear, the Trump administration is creating a system of fear that will lead to OUR VETERANS losing lifesaving healthcare, treatment for PTSD, and a host of other life-impacting services.

And it won’t end with political affiliation or marital status.

Dr. Kenneth Kizer, a former top healthcare official at the VA, believes the new rules could be used to refuse treatment based on a veteran’s “reason for seeking care – including allegations of rape and sexual assault… and personal behavior such as alcohol or marijuana use.”

As we do with all Trump efforts that hurt everyday Americans, we’re boosting this story through our advertising platforms to reach the people it impacts most.

If you can help, please pitch in $5 or more here to get this message to veterans now, and write or call your lawmakers today.
