On May 28, Trump nominated Florida state judge Ed Artau for a seat on the federal bench.
Two weeks after Trump’s re-election, Artau met with Senator Rick Scott to lobby for his nomination. Artau also contacted Senator Ashley Moody’s office and was recommended by both senators.
In the midst of his interviews, Artau was part of a panel of judges that ruled in Trump’s favor in the president’s case against members of the Pulitzer Prize Board.

Before being nominated by Trump, Artau was rewarded via an interview with the White House Counsel’s Office for his opinion in the defamation case that a Supreme Court decision making it harder for public officials to sue journalists should be overturned.
This is yet another instance of a corrupt official reaping the political and career benefits of ingratiating themselves with Trump, and proving their loyalty to him, even if it violates impartiality and other ethical standards.
