On December 1, Jared Kushner meets with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak at Trump Tower to discuss a possible secret, backdoor communications channel using Russia’s U.S. facilities. The aim is to prevent any monitoring of their plans before the upcoming inauguration.
Back in Moscow, Kislyak later conveys the conversation to his superiors and notes that Michael Flynn, upcoming national security adviser, was also part of the discussion.
Kislyak reportedly was taken aback by the suggestion of allowing an American to use Russian communications gear at its embassy or consulate — a proposal that would have carried security risks for Moscow as well as the Trump team.
