On June 20, Corey Lewandowski is let go by the campaign after pressure from Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC).
Even though Jared and Ivanka were heavily involved with the decision, sources say the people in the room when Lewandowski is fired are Donald Trump, Don Jr., and Eric.
Ivanka Trump, the candidate’s daughter, played a pivotal role in convincing Trump to take action against Lewandowski… Contributing to Ivanka Trump’s recent dissatisfaction with Lewandowski were intensifying tensions between Lewandowski and Ivanka Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner, an influential force behind the scenes. One source said rumors swirled that Lewandowski had attempted to plant negative stories in the press about Kushner — a final straw for Ivanka Trump.
Around this same time, Manafort instructs Rick Gates to periodically call an unnamed source to ask for updates on upcoming DNC email leaks.
Paul Manafort, already in large control as the campaign’s chief strategist, takes over most of Lewandowski’s responsibilities.
Mr. Lewandowski’s time was primarily spent on the campaign trail with the candidate, and day-to-day aspects of the operation were largely handled by the chief strategist, Paul Manafort. For months, Mr. Lewandowski had been a lightning rod for controversy, making headlines about himself that overshadowed his boss…
Manafort already had experience in American politics before his work with Russia in Ukraine. He was an active figure in Roy Cohn’s plot to elect Ronald Regan and Bob Dole.
“Ultimately, Paul is in charge,” Barry Bennett, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, said. “He’s got the experience to help get Mr. Trump across the finish line.”
