In a podcast interview released September 22, 2021, then-Senate candidate J.D. Vance was asked about allowing abortion in the case of rape or incest.
“The question betrays a certain assumption that’s wrong,” Vance claimed. “It’s not whether a woman should be forced to bring a child to term; it’s whether a child should be allowed to live, even though the circumstances of that child’s birth are somehow inconvenient or a problem to the society… Above all, we want women and young boys in the womb to have the right to life.”
Vance touched on other familiar grievances in this interview, including how “the left” and its “lifestyle brand” of not having kids is anathema to American prosperity.
Less than a year after this interview, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and J.D. Vance’s state of Ohio banned abortion.
Days later, an Ohio family was forced to flee to neighbor-state Indiana to get medical care for their daughter. The 10-year-old was pregnant with her rapist’s baby.
In Vance’s ideal version of the United States, a 10-year-old child and victim would be forced to carry and give birth to her own child, if she manages to survive the pregnancy.
