A Yahoo! News investigative journalist uncovers that one of Paul Manafort’s clients in the 1990s was actually a front for the Pakistani intelligence service (ISI).
Paul Manafort was a registered lobbyist for the U.S.-based Kashmiri American Council. The organization operated as a non-profit but was actually funded by the ISI and served the purpose of taking attention off Pakistan-sponsored terrorism internationally.
Manafort and Roger Stone’s lobbying firm, nicknamed “the torturer’s lobby,” received $700,000 from the Kashmiri American Council from 1990 through 1995. Manafort was primarily in charge of the Kashmiri account.
The group’s director plead guilty to conspiracy and tax fraud in 2012.
