ICE announced that they signed a $30 million deal with Palantir Technologies for the tech giant to give real-time data of people self deporting. ICE states the tool provided by Palantir will be for a platform named “Immigration Lifecycle Operating System,” or ImmigrationOS for short.
ImmigrationOS is intended to serve in three core areas: the first focuses on the prioritization of targeting and enforcement, which will streamline the selection and apprehension of undocumented migrants.
The second emphasizes tracking individuals who self-deport by providing near real time visibility into instances of self- deportation.
The third area of focus is what the agency coined “immigration lifecycle process,” which will make it easier for the agency to identify and deport undocumented migrants.
Neither Palantir nor ICE have explained what data sources Palantir will use for ImmigrationOS. Palantir Technologies was founded by Peter Thiel (J.D. Vance’s mentor and GOP mega-donor), Stephen Cohen, Joe Lonsdale, and Alex Karp in 2003.
