On June 20, the Trump administration sent termination notices to hundreds of Voice of America (VOA) workers, including Persian-speaking journalists who were just called back from administrative leave following Israel’s attack on Iran.
Not only is this a gift to Iran’s theocratic regime, but an obvious display of incompetence.
In total, 1,400 jobs at the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), the parent company of VOA, were terminated, amounting to about 85% of its workforce. Some of those fired on USAGM were done so in a manner that violates the organization’s policy on severance, with several workers not old enough to retire being terminated without severance pay.
