In early August, multiple news outlets reported that GOP megadonor Elon Musk‘s America PAC scraped sensitive user data under false pretenses.
From Nicholas Liu in Salon:
Residents in battleground states are submitting personal information to a pro-Trump PAC whose website invites them to ‘register to vote’—but instead of actually registering any voters, the PAC is just storing their precious voter data
The “voter registration” data-harvesting site offered different prompts according to whether or not visitors were from swing states: respondents who claimed to be from Pennsylvania or Georgia were directed not to registration, but rather to a form that would collect personal information.

Like with so many far-right efforts, after getting busted the form disappeared when it was revealed to be nothing more than a data-mining operation. Officials from North Carolina and Michigan are said to be investigating Musk’s PAC for its sketchy-data scheme.
