On or shortly before May 16, Donald Trump and former Sen. John Tower are spotted at a party with Robert and Ghislaine Maxwell, on Maxwell’s yacht.
Other party guests include Thomas Pickering, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and former ambassador to Israel; John Lehman, former Navy secretary under Ronald Reagan; Tom Bolan, former Reagan transition team member and Roy Cohn law partner; Morton Janklow, a literary agent whose client list includes multiple presidents; and Peter Kalikow, owner of the New York Post.
Lady Ghislaine, Maxwell’s yacht, originally belonged to a brother of Saudi Arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi. Trump’s own yacht, Trump Princess, was purchased from Adnan Khashoggi directly.
Records indicate that Trump and Robert Maxwell’s paths crossed in the late 1980s, but the party in May is the first time their friendship is made public. A September 1989 article in The New York Times notes that Robert Maxwell and Donald Trump share the same U.S. publicist, Howard Rubenstein.

In July 1990, President George H.W. Bush taps John Tower to lead his Intelligence Advisory Board. Pickering goes on to become the Bush administration’s ambassador to India, then the Clinton administration’s ambassador to Russia.
