Donald Trump meets Jeffery Epstein sometime in 1987, according to Trump’s own math. In an interview with New York magazine in 2002, Trump says that he’s known Epstein, or “Jeff,” for 15 years.

Epstein likes to tell people that he’s a loner, a man who’s never touched alcohol or drugs, and one whose nightlife is far from energetic. And yet if you talk to Donald Trump, a different Epstein emerges. “I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy,” Trump booms from a speakerphone. “He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”

This timeline adds up with reporting by Michael Wolff that Trump, Epstein, and future campaign adviser Tom Barrack were a “set of nightlife musketeers” in the ’80s and ’90s. 1987 is also the year that Trump buys a yacht from Saudi arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi, one of Epstein’s clients.

Three years later, in 1990, Epstein buys his Palm Beach home and becomes Trump’s neighbor. The drive from Mar-a-Lago to Epstein’s house takes only five minutes, and Trump visits at least once.

Roger Stone, Trump’s former adviser, wrote in his 2016 book titled The Clintons’ War on Women that once after Trump visited Epstein’s home in Florida, he commented about the girls he saw, saying, “The swimming pool was filled with beautiful young girls.”
