DOJ removes document referencing scope of far-right violence

Between 11 and 12 September, a report that found that far-right terrorists have killed more Americans than any other extremist grouping was scrubbed from the Department of Justice website.

The report was titled “What NIJ Research Tells Us About Domestic Terrorism.”

The vanished study opened with: “Since 1990, far-right extremists have committed far more ideologically motivated homicides than far-left or radical Islamist extremists, including 227 events that took more than 520 lives. In this same period, far-left extremists committed 42 ideologically motivated attacks that took 78 lives.”

The Guardian

“NIJ” stands for the National Institute of Justice, a reputable source. Its research spanned for three decades and was a quintessential government source on domestic terrorism. Not only did it find that far-right violence was the most dominant, but that it was increasing in prevalence. Its findings also aligned with the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

In place of the report was a note that the Justice Department was, “reviewing its websites and materials in accordance with recent executive orders.” Now the page as a whole is unavailable. The “executive orders” that the website referred to are unknown.

The report was removed in the aftermath of the assassination of Trump ally and youth organizer Charlie Kirk. Immediately after the assassination, and without evidence, Trump claimed that the assassin, Tyler Robinson, was a member of the far-left. The removal of this document, if intentional, is a sign that the Trump administration seeks to control the narrative regarding Robinson’s motive.
